EMS is based on the following principles:

Environmental Management Principles

Key Features Of An Environmental Management System?

An EMS will focus mainly on recognizing, managing, and monitoring environmental factors and their impacts on the environment.

The PDCA process (Plan, Do, Check, Act) can be used to further break down these topics.

PDCA

PLAN:

These are some actions you need to take during the planning stage:

  1. Understanding your organization and its context (including the needs and expectations of your stakeholders).
  2. Define the scope of your environmental management system and implement it.
  3. Ensure leadership and commitment from your top management.
  4. Create a policy for the environmental protection of your organization.
  5. Determine the responsibilities and authority of relevant roles.
  6. Determine your environmental impact and environmental aspects.
  7. You can identify your compliance obligations (legislation, regulations, etc.) and access them.
  8. Establish what risks and opportunities exist for your business, take action to improve them and evaluate their effectiveness.
  9. Develop your environmental objectives and identify the indicators that will help you meet them

DO:

Here is what you do in this stage:

  1. Determine your EMS implementation and maintenance budget
  2. Ensure that people possess the right expertise and awareness by determining what is required of them
  3. Create, implement, and monitor internal and external communication processes
  4. Establish procedures for the creation, update, and management of documentation
  5. Defining, implementing, and controlling your operational processes that are necessary for meeting your EMS
  6. Identify potentially dangerous situations and the necessary actions to take

CHECK:

Next:

  1. Analyze, measure, and evaluate the environmental impact of your activities
  2. Determine whether you are meeting your compliance requirements
  3. Conduct periodic internal audits of your EMS
  4. Make sure that your EMS is appropriate, adequate, and effective by conducting a management review.

ACT:

Then finally:

  1. Respond to non-conformities
  2. To enhance your environmental performance, act to continually improve your EMS’s suitability, adequacy, and effectiveness.

Repeat and rinse the cycle again.
