FOOD SAFETY PLAN
What is Food Safety Plan?
Using a food safety plan can help you manage your food safety more efficiently and effectively. You need to include the following information in your plan:
- Food safety hazards
- Preventative measures
- Control limits
- Corrective actions.
Steps to be followed when setting up a food safety plan:
- Hazards– Recognizing all hazards in the food safety process is essential. The word hazard refers to anything that poses a risk to your food products. In this step, you can create a list of all the potential and real hazards.
- Preventative Measures– The next step is to list all the preventative measures that you have identified in step one for each hazard. Next, list all the control limits that need to be met for each hazard. You must meet control limits to ensure that the hazard has been prevented.
- Monitoring Processes– The preventive measures and control limits that you have outlined should be monitored and ensured you are following them
- Corrective Actions– This step is very important. If you have completed your monitoring processes and realise that you have not met the food safety preventative measures and control limits which you outlined, it’s critical to have corrective actions to quickly resolve any issues you are experiencing.
- Keeping records– The use of an integrated management system can help you keep track of your daily activities and demonstrate that you follow preventative measures and control measures.
- Check and Review – Making sure your business processes are always relevant and effective by regularly reviewing and updating them.
