OHS stands for Occupational Health and safety. This is a regulated service that an organisation adopts to ensure the health and safety of the employees in their workplace.
What is the OHS Act?
The OHS act is a legal requirement that an organisation enforces to provide for the health and safety it’s employees in the workplace. It further provides for the protection of people other than people at work from hazards arising out of or in connection with the activities from people at work.
What is an OHS policy?
The Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993, requires that the employer provide and maintain a reasonable and practical work environment that is safe and without risk to the health and well-being of its employees.

SHEQ stands for Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality within the Management system.
What is ISO?
ISO is the (International Organization for Standardization) is an independent, international organisation that develops standards to promote and ensure the quality, safety, and efficiency of products, services, and systems.

ISO 14001 has become the international standard for designing and implementing an environmental management system. An environmental management system, (EMS), is made up of the policies, processes, plans, practices and records that are used by the organisation to manage environmental aspects.

ISO 45001 is an International Standard that specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, with guidance for its use, to enable an organisation to proactively improve its OH&S performance in preventing injury and ill-health.

A management system is the manner in which an organisation manages the interrelated parts of its business in order to achieve its objectives and intended outcomes.
What is compliance management?
Compliance management is the continued process of monitoring and assessing systems to ensure that they comply with the industry and security standards, including corporate and regulatory policies.

What is a health and safety representative?
A Health and Safety Representative is designated in workplaces where the employer employs more than 20 employees. Health and Safety Representatives often act as the liaison between senior management and employees.
What is a safety officer?
The Health and Safety Officer must be in possession of a relevant formal qualification. In the construction industry, one must also be registered with the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) in order to work as a Health and Safety Officer.
What is PPE?
PPE stands for Personal protective equipment. It is worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. These injuries and illnesses may result from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards.
